Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to read about this thing called life. Eclectic in my taste, I find pleasure in both fiction and non-fiction, and within genres. My grandma used to say I’d read the cereal box if I had to, just to be reading. She was right.

I’m an unapologetic romance reader, a dabbler in sci-fi, an appreciator of literary fiction that gets twisty and weird, but it has to have a heart and an anchor, and preferably an intersectional feminist sensibility. Wordplay is good. Wit is good. Nostalgia is good. Character and setting are the appeal factors that I’m most drawn to. Interesting language can hook me, too.

I lean toward nonfiction with a sociological bent - anything that explains where we come from, how we got here, and why we do the crazy human things we do in every corner of the world. I like books that explain hidden facets of life the most of us never think about, books about how-to do things (cook, decorate, garden, dress, travel) and memoirs written by people with gorgeous souls who do ordinary things.

I crave spicy food, kind people, quiet music, melancholy movies, autumn days, roaring fireplaces, cuddly dogs, and red wine. Not necessarily in that order.
